FAR Part 117 Duty Calculator

Enter your report time, segment count and crew setup. You get your Flight Duty Period limit straight from Tables B / C, the hours you have left, the wall-clock time duty must end, and the cumulative 60 / 168 and 190 / 672 checks.

Cumulative — flight time

Rest & weekly break

Quarter hours are fine. The FDP starts at report and ends when the aircraft is parked — pre-flight duties, deadheads and airport/standby reserve before or between flights all count inside it. Deadheading is not a flight segment.

Rolling cumulative window — 60/168 & 190/672

Type the FDP hours you actually flew on each of the last 7 days (§117.23(c)(1) window), a subtotal for days 8–28 (the 672 h window), and what you are planning today. Both caps are rolling windows — the oldest day drops out as it ages past 168/672 h.

Stored only on this device. Quarter hours are fine. A pre-takeoff §117.19(a) extension may never push you past these caps (§117.19(a)(3)).

Questions pilots actually ask

Why is my limit only 9 hours?

Because of when you report. Table B is flat 9 h for a 0000–0359 report regardless of segments, and drops to 9 h at 5+ segments for late reports (1700–2359). Check the band-by-band guide.

Does a deadhead count as a segment?

No — but it is duty, and it sits inside your FDP if it comes before or between flights without a rest period. Transportation to or from the hotel is not deadhead and is not FDP at all.

Does the hotel shuttle eat my 10-hour rest?

Rest is measured from release. If shuttle + check-in means you can't get 8 uninterrupted sleep hours inside the 10, you must notify the company and you may not report until you get a compliant rest.

Can I fly past my FDP limit?

Only after takeoff, only as far as needed to land safely at the destination or alternate, and an extension over 30 minutes counts only once before you get a 30-hour free-of-duty rest. Before takeoff, an unforeseen-circumstances extension is capped at +2 hours with PIC and company concurrence.

What are the cumulative numbers?

60 FDP hours in any 168 h, 190 FDP hours in any 672 h, 100 flight hours in any 672 h, 1,000 flight hours per calendar year — and all flying for any certificate holder counts.

Is this my contract?

No. Part 117 is the regulatory floor — your CBA and ops spec are usually stricter. This tool computes the federal minimum only.

FAQ

Why is my FDP limit only 9 hours?
Table B gives a flat 9 hours for a report time of 0000-0359 no matter how many segments you fly, and 9 hours for 5 or more segments when reporting 1700-2359. Early and late report bands exist because circadian low makes those days harder, not because of aircraft type.
Does deadhead transportation count toward my FDP?
Yes for duty, no for segments. Deadheading is duty under Part 117 and time spent deadheading before or between flights counts inside the Flight Duty Period — but the definition says deadhead is not considered a flight segment when picking your Table B column. Transportation to or from a hotel (suitable accommodation) is not deadhead and is not part of FDP.
Does my 10-hour rest include the hotel shuttle?
Rest is measured from the moment you are released from duty. The 10 hours must contain a minimum 8-hour uninterrupted sleep opportunity, so the shuttle and check-in eat into it. If your rest will not give you 8 uninterrupted hours, you must tell the company and may not report until you get a compliant rest (117.25(e)-(f)).
What is the 30-hour rule every week?
Before beginning any reserve or duty period you must have had at least 30 consecutive hours free from all duty somewhere in the past 168 hours (7 days). It is a rolling window, not a calendar week.
Is my airline's contract the same as Part 117?
No — and it is usually stricter. Part 117 is the regulatory floor. Your CBA may shorten FDPs, lengthen rest, or add pay protections, and your carrier's ops spec may impose more. This calculator only computes the federal minimum.
Is this calculator free?
Yes — the limit lookup, the deadline math and the cumulative checks are free and run entirely in your browser. Saving more than one scenario and exporting a compliance report are Pro features, unlocked by viewing a short sponsor message (valid 7 days on your device).
Where are my saved scenarios stored?
On this device only. Nothing you type here is uploaded anywhere — there is no account and no server involved.
