KeyDBSwitch & keycap compatibility

Mechanical switch & keycap compatibility database

64 switches — Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, Akko, TTC, Outemu, low-profile and Hall Effect magnetic — with travel, force and sound data. Filter, compare force curves, then check the exact switch × keycap × layout combination before you buy.

🔒 100% client-side. Nothing is uploaded; your collection lives in this browser and exports as an offline code.

⚡ Hall Effect magnetic switch corner

The hot new category: magnet + sensor instead of contacts → adjustable actuation (down to 0.1 mm) and rapid trigger. We track 7 HE switches — with board sockets and magnet polarity — and which boards accept them.

How to use this site

  1. Pick a switch — filter by type or force, open a row for the spec sheet and stylized force curve.
  2. Check compatibility — the checker judges switch × keycap profile × layout, including HE stems, low-profile mounts and row-kit needs.
  3. Learn the rules — all guides: how to read switch specs, keycap compatibility rules, Hall Effect explained, the Gateron Jade family matrix, TMR vs HE, quietest switches and the keyboard layout guide.

FAQ

What is a Hall Effect magnetic keyboard switch?
A switch that measures stem position with a Hall Effect sensor and magnet instead of metal contacts, letting you set the actuation point anywhere in the travel and use rapid trigger. It only works on boards with Hall Effect PCBs.
Do all keycaps fit all mechanical switches?
Most keycap sets use the Cherry MX cross stem and fit standard switches, but low-profile (Choc) switches and some Hall Effect stems need specific caps. Sculpted profiles also need the right row kits for compact layouts.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser tab. Your saved collection lives in localStorage on this device and exports as an offline code you can store anywhere.

Basis & sources

What this page rests on — and what it deliberately does not claim.

There is no official standard for keycap or switch compatibility. Figures here follow manufacturer datasheets and community measurements (mm, not inches); treat them as a starting point before buying — not a compatibility guarantee.
